General description

N,N′-Bis(salicylidene)ethylenediamine (salen) reacts with ferric chloride in acetone solution to yield the complex (Fe salen Cl)[1].

Application

N,N′-Bis(salicylidene)ethylenediamine (salen) immobilized on surfactant-coated alumina has been used as complexing agent for on-line preconcentration of copper and lead by flow injection-flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FI-AAS)[2].

Square-planar nickel(II) complexes of salen ligands, N,N'-bis(3-tert-butyl-(5R)-salicylidene)-1,2-cyclohexanediamine), in which R=tert-butyl (1), OMe (2), and NMe(2) (3), were prepared and the electronic structure of the one-electron-oxidized species [1-3](+·) was investigated in solution. Cyclic voltammograms of [1-3] showed two quasi-reversible redox waves

Highly active yttrium phosphasalen initiators for the stereocontrolled ring-opening polymerization of rac-lactide are reported. The initiators are coordinated by a new class of ancillary ligand: an iminophosphorane derivative of the popular "salen" ligand, termed "phosphasalen". Changing the phosphasalen structure enables

In this paper, three main methods of metal ion separation, i.e., liquid-liquid extraction, transport across polymer inclusion membranes (PIMs), and sorption/desorption, are described. In all of them, N,N'-bis(salicylidene)ethylenediamine (salen) was used as an active compound, i.e., as an extractant or
