Gene Information

General description

Protein kinase D1 (PRKD1) belongs to the protein kinase D family. It is a serine/threonine kinase which is expressed in mammary glands. The gene encoding this protein is localized on human chromosome 14q12.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human PKD1/2/3/PKC mu around the phosphorylation site of Ser738 and Ser742.

Immunogen Range: 706-755

Biochem/physiol Actions

Protein kinase D1 (PRKD1) has a role in insulin secretion in the islets of Langerhans. The protein is involved in various cellular processes like DNA synthesis, cell cycle progression, initiation of the nuclear factor κB pathway, vesicular trafficking and apoptosis. It conserves epithelial phenotype by inhibiting epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition. PRKD1 acts as an effector of diacylglycerol and protein kinase C. Protein kinase D2 (PRKD2) is a mediator of tumor cell-endothelial cell communication. PRKD2 influences CD8+ T cell-dependent immune responses. It facilitates cell migration and it is associated with the progression and maintenance of various malignancies.
