General description

Staphylococcal alpha-Toxin is a pore forming cytotoxin. Native alpha toxin is a water-soluble monomer but later on gets converted to β-barrel in the host membranes. It is 34 kDa protein. The N- terminal and the C-terminal are involved in forming a membrane-binding epitope and the central domain forms a membrane-inserting, pore forming domain.

Specificity

Anti-Staphylococcal alpha-Toxin-peroxidase antibody specifically recognizes Staphylococcal alpha-Toxin (?-Hemolysin) and has no cross reactivity with Staphylococcal Enterotoxin A (SEA), Cholera Toxin or Pseudomonas Exotoxin A

Immunogen

purified toxin from Staphylococcus aureus

Application

The antibody may be used in various immunochemical techniques including ELISA

Biochem/physiol Actions

Staphylococcal alpha-Toxin plays a role in binding to the host membrane. At higher concentrations it makes the cells which are devoid of receptors to become more permeable and hence also to protein-free lipid bilayers.

Diagnostic Implications

Unless otherwise stated in our catalog  our products are intended for research use only and are not to be used for any other purpose, which includes but is not limited to, unauthorized commercial uses, in vitro diagnostic uses, ex vivo or in vivo therapeutic uses or any type of consumption or application to humans or animals.

Physical form

Supplied as a lyophilized powder.

Storage and Stability

Store the lyophilized product at 2–8 °C. For extended storage after reconstitution, keep at –20 °C in working aliquots. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. For continuous use after reconstitution, keep at 2–8 °C for up to 1 month. Solutions at working dilution should be discarded if not used within 12 hours.
