General description
Each unit of SRM 2831 contains 25 mm D × 9.5 mm disk with a nominal hardness of ~15.0 GPa (1530kgf/mm2), packaged in a wooden box. Every unit is certified individually and features a unique serial number, which is inscribed on the opposite (bottom)face of the disk in the format of the letter W followed by a hyphen and the disk number.

Application
Vickers hardness of ceramicsand hard metals standard reference material (SRM) is intended for calibrating all hardness and microhardness testing machines. It involves creating a Vickers indentation and subsequently measuring it using a microscope.
