as measured by the cleavage of 10 μM MCA-Ser-Glu-Val-Asn-Leu-Asp-Ala-Glu-Phe-Arg-Lys(DNP)-Arg-Arg-NH2 fluorescent substrate using 100 ng BACE-1 in 0.1 M sodium acetate (pH 4.0) at room temperature
