Gene Information

human ... COMP(1311)

General description

Cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP, Thrombospondin-5, TSP5) is a member of the thrombospondin gene family. COMP is usually found in the extracellular matrix and is regularly linked to cartilage tissue. COMP seems to protect chondrocytes against cell death, whether tumor necrosis factor alpha is present or not. Defects in COMP are the cause of multiple epiphyseal dysplasia type 1 and pseudoachondroplasia.

Immunogen

Human cartilage oligometric matrix recombinant protein.

Application

Immunohistochemistry (Frozen Tissue) Analysis: A previous lot of this antibody was shown to detect COMP in osteoblasts lining the bone spicules of adult human subchondral bone section (Di Cesare, P.E., et al. (2000). Journal of Orthopaedic Research. 18:713.720).

Recent genome-wide association studies have revealed an association between variation at the ADAMTS7 locus and susceptibility to coronary artery disease (CAD). Furthermore, in a population-based study cohort, we observed an inverse association between atherosclerosis prevalence and rs3825807, a nonsynonymous SNP
