General description

An analog of benzoylecgonine, cocaethylene is a metabolite of cocaine formed in the presence of ethanol. This stable-labeled internal standard is suitable for quantitation of cocaethylene levels in urine, blood, and saliva by LC/MS or GC/MS for urine drug testing, clinical toxicology, forensic analysis, or isotope dilution methods.

Application

  • Cocaethylene-D₃ in pharmacokinetic research: Utilized in studies examining cocaethylene formation following ethanol and cocaine administration via various routes, cocaethylene-D₃ serves as a stable isotope-labeled internal standard, crucial for accurate pharmacokinetic profiling (Herbst et al., 2011).

  • Quantitative analysis in toxicology: Cocaethylene-D₃ is employed as an internal standard in GC-MS methods for the quantification of cocaine and its metabolites in biological samples, highlighting its importance in forensic and clinical toxicology studies (Fleming et al., 2010).
