General description

IFN-α-2a belongs to the type I interferon protein family. Interferon α 2A is one among the three variants of IFN-α2. Recombinant human IFN-α-2a is expressed in human 293 cells as a glycosylated monomer of 165 amino acids, with an average molecular weight of 20 kDa (monomer).

Application

Interferon α 2A human has been used as an inhibitor of hepatitis D virus (HDV).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Interferon Alpha 2A human is produced by many cell types in response to viral infection. IFN-α-2A has antiproliferative and antitumor activities, as well as induction of apoptosis and inflammatory response
Interferon α 2A might be implicated in the regression of proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Telaprevir and pegylated interferon–α-2a (PEG-IFN–α-2a) serves as a potential therapeutic method for hepatitis C virus (HCV). IFN α 2A along with IFN α 2b and IFN α2c exhibits anti-proliferative effect.
