Gene Information

General description

C1q and TNF (Tumour necrosis factor) related protein 6 (CTRP6/C1QTNF6) is a glycoprotein which belongs to family of proteins containing TNF alpha-like globular domain. CTRP6 is a single peptide with a short variable region, a collagen like region, and a C-terminal globular domain. CTRP6 is expressed in human synoviocytes. In human chromosome, the gene is localized on 22q12.3.

Immunogen

CTRP6 antibody was raised against a 15 amino acid peptide from near the carboxy-terminus of human CTRP6.

Biochem/physiol Actions

C1q and TNF (Tumour necrosis factor) related protein 6 (CTRP6) plays a major role in fatty acid metabolism. CTRP6 phosphorylates AMCK (5′-AMP (adenosine monophosphate)-activated protein kinase) and ACC (acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase) and activates AMCK-ACC pathway. The expression level of CTRP6 is increased in rheumatoid arthritis. CTRP6 inhibits alternative complement pathway and helps in maintaining pregnancy. CTRP6 mediates the ectopic lipogenesis in myoblasts through AdipoR1/Erk/PPARγ (Adiponectin receptor 1/Extracellular signal-regulated kinases/Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma) signalling pathway. CTRP6 is overexpressed in hepatocellular carcinoma and stimulates angiogenesis by Akt (serine/threonine-protein kinase) pathway. CTRP6 confers susceptibility to type I diabetes. CTRP6 maybe a key regulator connecting obesity with tissue inflammation and insulin resistance.

The complement system is important for the host defence against infection as well as for the development of inflammatory diseases. Here we show that C1q/TNF-related protein 6 (CTRP6; gene symbol C1qtnf6) expression is elevated in mouse rheumatoid arthritis (RA) models.
