Cell Line Origin

Human Caucasian gastric adenocarcinoma

Cell Line Description

Derived from an adenocarcinoma of the stomach of a 54 year-old Caucasian female with no prior anti-cancer treatment. AGS cells are persistently infected with parainfluenza virus type 5 (PIV5).

Application

AGS human cell line has been used:
  • to study the role of obestatin/G protein-coupled receptor 39 (GPR39) in gastric cancer progression
  • to determine expression levels of colon cancer associated transcript -1 (CCAT1)
  • to study the adhesion of Lactobacillus sps. to the gastric mucosa

Culture Medium

Ham′s F12 + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:2 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2-5x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin; 0.05% EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C.
