General description

Method: colorimetric, indophenol blue, with color card and comparator block with short test tubes 0.2-0.5-0.8-1.2-1.6-2-3-5-8 mg/l NH₄⁺ 0.16-0.4-0.6-0.9-1.2-1.6-2.3-3.9-6.2 mg/l NH₄-N MQuant®
With the MQuant® Ammonium test (formally MColortest®) ammonium ions can be detected in e.g. groundwater and surface water, seawater, drinking water and aquarium water. Ammonium nitrogen (NH4-N) occurs partly in the form of ammonium ions and partly as ammonia. A pH-dependent equilibrium exists between the two forms.

Method
In strongly alkaline solution ammonia reacts with a chlorinating agent to form monochloramine. This in turn reacts with thymol to form a blue indophenol derivative. Due to the intrinsic yellow coloration of the reagent blank, the measurement solution is yellow-green to green in color. The ammonium concentration is measured semiquantitatively by visual comparison of the color of the measurement solution with the color fields of a color card. The unique brilliance of the print and their fine color graduation allow precise analyses, even at the lower end of the concentration range. Using the refill pack 1.18455 the original test kit can be used for a very long time, making it a particularly economical and ecological system.

The test is suitable for ammonium determination in
  • Groundwater and surface water
  • Drinking water and mineral water
  • Aquarium water, waters from aquaculture
  • Boiler and boiler feed water, cooling water
  • Process water
  • Waste water
  • Electroplating wastewater
  • Swimming-pool water
  • Nutrient solutions for fertilization
  • Food after appropriate sample pretreatment

This test is not suited for seawater.
