Bid, a BH3 domain-containing proapoptotic Bcl-2 family member, is known to interact with Bcl-2 and Bax. It has been reported that Bid induces cytochrome c release from mitochondria following cleavage by caspase-8 in response to apoptotic stimuli transmitted through cell surface death receptors. The cytochrome c releasing activity of Bid was antagonized by Bcl-2. Mutation in the SH3 domain can diminish the cytochrome c releasing activity. In animal model studies, Bid-deficient mice are found resistant to the lethal effects of death factor signals relayed through Fas.

BACKGROUND Hypertension-related microRNA(miR)-1283 and its target gene, activating transcription factor-4 (ATF4), can regulate vascular endothelial dysfunction. This study aimed to explore whether miR-1283 prevents hypertension through targeting ATF4. MATERIAL AND METHODS Transcriptome sequencing was performed after overexpression or inhibition of
AMPK is a serine/threonine protein kinase family and we recently identified a novel member, ARK5. The activation of ARK5 is triggered by Akt, and ARK5 induces tumor cell survival during nutrient starvation. In the current study, we investigated the mechanisms
The roles of cathepsins in the ischemic astrocytic injury remain unclear. Here, we test the hypothesis that activation of cathepsin B and L contributes to the ischemic astrocyte injury via the tBid-mitochondrial apoptotic signaling pathways. In the rat models of
