General description

Neo-Clear (xylene substitute) - for microscopy, is an aliphatic hydrocarbon mixture that can substitute the same applications as xylene in the histo-medical lab - histoprocessing, deparaffination and clearing after dehydration in staining process. It is not necessary to change methods or incubation times when using Neo-Clear instead of xylene. As the evaporation rate of Neo-Clear is lower then xylene, it has less odor and the disturbing smell in the lab is reduced significantly. Neo-Clear is more sensitive against water in solvents (turbidity can occur), thus, it is essential to avoid technical qualities of solvents. It is an IVD registered product and CE certified, thus can be used for clinical diagnostic purposes. For more details, please see instructions for use (IFU). The IFU can be downloaded from this webpage.

Questions

1–2 of 2 Questions
  1. Is the solvent Neo Clear 1.09843.5000 compatible with a xylene-based mounting medium, or there is any recommendation of any other mounting medium?

    1 answer
    1. Neo Clear is best used with Neo Mount, while Xylene should be avoided.

      Helpful?

  2. Is it possible to use NeoClear with paraffin tissue that was initially processed using Xylene?

    1 answer
    1. After embedding the slides in paraffin, Neoclear or Xylene can be used to clear the slides and remove the paraffin before staining. If NeoClear is chosen, NeoMount should serve as the permanent mounting media. It is generally not recommended to use NeoClear and a xylene-based permanent mounting media, as the standard practice in histology is to use a clearing agent that matches the permanent mounting media. If an aqueous mounting media is utilized, the slides are stained, washed in water, and then coverslipped with the aqueous mounting media. In the case of aqueous mounting media, the slides do not undergo NeoClear or Xylene treatment.
