A human uterine sarcoma derived in 1980 from a tumour obtained at the time of a hysterectomy from a 56 year old Caucasian female. The cells form tumours in athymic nude mice, readily form colonies in soft agar and have a reported doubling time of 22-24 hours. The cells are sensitive to a number of chemotherapeutic agents including doxorubicin, dactinomycin, mitomycin C, taxol and bleomycin. They are resistant to vinblastine dacarbazine, cisplatin, melphalan, vincristine methotrexate and etoposide. The multi drug-resistant cell line MES-SA/Dx5 was established from MES-SA cells grown in the presence of doxorubicin.
Application
Tumourigenicity and chemotherapeutic agent studies
