General description

Sodium nitrate is a water soluble inorganic salt that is commonly used in fertilizers. Due to its thermal stability at high temperature, it shows potential as a phase change material (PCM) for thermal energy storage.

Application

Sodium nitrate may be used for the modification of natural phosphate for use as a basic catalyst for Claisen-Schmidt condensation. It may also be used in the nitration of benzene in trifluoroacetic acid.
