General description
Fucoidan is a fucose-rich, sulfated polysaccharide isolated from several species of brown seaweed.
Fucoidan has a complex chemical composition. It contains mannose, galactose, glucose, xylose and other monosaccharides. It is also composed of uronic acids, acetyl groups and protein.
Application
Biochem/physiol Actions
Studies of fucoidan have found it to have a broad variety of biological activities including antitumor and antiangogenic activities, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, anticoagulant, antithrombotic, and antioxidant activities. Fucoidan induces macrophage activation which subsequently activates mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) and results in natural killer cell proliferation. Fucoidan acts as a nonselective selectin blocker and has been shown to induce apoptosis and suppress angiogenesis.

Does it have a reference of molecular weight, total sugar content, and sulfate content for each plot? I'll take experiments on it and would like to get into it. Thank you.

For this product, the total carbohydrate content is typically around 60 percent by weight. Unfortunately, neither the molecular weight nor the sulfate content is tested.

What is the monosaccharide composition of this fucoidan? How much is fucose relative to glucuronic acid, mannose, galactose and xylose?

This product has not been tested to determine the monosaccharide profile. In general, publications suggest that Fucoidan from Undaria pinnatifida is made up of primarily fucose and galactose. Please see the link below to review a publication that may be of interest:
