General description

Endothelial Cell Basal Medium 2 (supplements sold separately)

To form a complete medium, it should be combined with the media supplements: C-39216 or C-39211

Application

Endothelial Cell Growth Medium 2 is a low-serum (2% V/V) medium that lacks Endothelial Cell Growth Supplement (ECGS, bovine hypothalamic extract) but contains Insulin-like Growth Factor (Long R3 IGF, recombinant human) and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF). Generally, VEGF leads to higher endothelial cell proliferation in culture. But, because of its multiple effects on cell metabolism, it may also interfere with certain experimental setups. In these cases, we recommend the use of Endothelial Cell Growth Medium, which contains no VEGF.


Although all our media are optimized for use with primary human cells, we have received feedback from customers that this particular medium can also be used for bovine, porcine, murine, caprine, rabbit, elephant, dog, and rat endothelial cells from large vessels as well as for various endothelial cell lines.

Note: For best transfection results we recommend using our heparin-free Endothelial Cell Growth Medium MV2. Heparin, included in all our other Endothelial Cell Growth Media formulations, may reduce transfection efficiency.

Store the Basal Medium at 4 to 8°C in the dark immediately after arrival. Do not freeze the Basal Medium. If stored properly, the medium is stable until the expiry date stated on the label. After adding the supplements to the Basal Medium, the shelf life of the complete medium is 6 weeks at 4 to 8°C. Do not freeze the complete medium. For use, pre-warm only an aliquot of the complete medium and keep the remaining medium refrigerated at 4 to 8°C

Analysis Note

All lots of PromoCell Endothelial Cell Media 2 are subjected to comprehensive quality control tests using primary human endothelial cells. Each lot is checked for growth promoting activity, adherence rate, and typical morphology of the tested endothelial cells. Approved in-house lots of media are used as a reference. In addition, all lots of media have been tested for the absence of microbial contaminants (fungi, bacteria, mycoplasma).
