Application



  • Accumulation of contaminants in mussels: A study reported that freshwater mussels accumulate radioactivity from oil and gas produced water, serving as biomarkers in environmental biomonitoring for aquatic systems (Pankratz and Warner, 2024).


  • Micro-fragment pollution in Antarctic mussels: Detection of plastic, cellulosic micro-fragments, and microfibers in Laternula elliptica mussels from Maritime Antarctica suggests their utility in studying pollution dispersal and impacts in marine ecosystems (González-Aravena et al., 2024).


  • Impact of contaminants on mussel reproduction: A study found that a mixture of agricultural and urban contaminants significantly reduces juvenile production in freshwater mussels, pointing to critical impacts on mussel populations and potential biochemistical studies (Richard et al., 2024).
