General description
The Serine Protease Inhibitor Cocktail Set I, called Serpins, is a mixture of highly specific inhibitor protein that provides a broad range of serine protease inhibition. This product specifically inhibits serine proteases using inhibitors such as 4-benzenesulfonyl fluoride hydrochloride (AEBSF), and Aprotinin.
Application
The Serine Protease Inhibitor Cocktail Set I – Calbiochem may be used:
- to protect proteins from serine protease degradation during cell or tissue lysis to preserve sample integrity.
- to maintain protein stability and native state in downstream proteomic analyses such as Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, and mass spectrometry.
- to support accurate protein quantification and characterization in studies involving biomarker discovery and post-translational modifications.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Serine proteases are enzymes involved in processes like coagulation, fibrinolysis, inflammation, apoptosis, and tissue homeostasis. It acts through complimentary and overlapping inhibitory mechanisms. Serpins like 4-Benzenesulfonyl fluoride hydrochloride (AEBSF) inhibit serine proteases by reacting rapidly with the enzyme′s catalytic serine residue. This reaction forms a stable acyl-enzyme complex that prevents protease from breaking down proteins to stop its activity.
