General description

Chemical structure: fluoroquinolone
Nadifloxacin is antimicrobial in nature, and is a fluorinated quinolone. It is highly potent against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, especially Propionibacteruim acnes.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Nadifloxacin is used as a topical antibacterial, which is bactericidal due to its capability of preventing the negative supercoiling of bacterial DNA. DNA supercoiling, replication, transcription are catalyzed by DNA gyrase. In Japan, it is used to treat skin infection and acne. Studies show, that nadifloxacin is capable of successfully treating green nail syndrome (GNS) caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
