This product is not tested for solubility. However, other Protamine sulfate products currently available are dissolved initially in 6N Hydrochloric acid at 25 mg/mL. This stock solution may then be diluted out with aqueous buffer or medium. In addition, a brief search of the literature reveals that this material may also be prepared by dissolving in HPLC grade water to a concentration of 10mg/ml. A stock solution was diluted to a final working concentration in growth media of 10?g/ml and stored at -20°C. This information has not been validated.

Protamine sulfate is a cationic polypeptide having a molecular weight of 5 kDa, isolated from salmon sperm.[1]
Application
Biochem/physiol Actions
Alkaline protamine binds to negatively charged heparin. Use of protamine during cardiovascular surgery sometime triggers anaphylactic reactions.[5]
Protamine facilitates direct transfection of microbial cells, and of human cells using cationic liposomes. Protamine effectively neutralizes the anticoagulation effects of heparin.
