General description

3-Amino-1,2,4-triazole is a herbicide effective against weeds especially bermuda and quack grass. It enters plant circulation through roots and is majorly present in the meristem. 3-Amino-1,2,4-triazole inhibits chlorophyll synthesis resulting in chlorotic leaves and albino plants. In addition, it also affects the growth of the plants. It is exploited to destroy unwanted weeds.[1] It is synthesized from aminoguanidine formate and corresponds to a molecular weight of 84 Da.[2]

Application

3-Amino-1,2,4-triazole has been used:
  • as an organelle-specific perturbant in human embryonic kidney (HEK293T) cells[2]
  • as histidine biosynthesis inhibitor in medium for screening co-transformants from yeast two-hybrid interactions[3]
  • for preservation of midgut sample from honey bee[4]
  • for the determination of tryptophan in proteins.
