General description

Phosphate buffered saline is a non-toxic biological buffer generally containing sodium phosphate, sodium chloride, and potassium phosphate. It prevents cells from osmosis-mediated rupture or dehydration. PBS is widely used for washing cells, immunohistochemistry, and various other cellular techniques.[1]

Application

Phosphate buffered saline has been used in sample preparation for quantifying the wound fluid proteins from pressure ulcers in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI).[2] It has also been used for cell rinsing in various biological researches.[3][4][5]
