Questions

1–10 of 14 Questions
  1. Can I use this membrane to dialyze a polymer (MW 12000) against water or PBS buffer pH 7.4? thank you

    1 answer
    1. The membrane has a 2 kDa nominal pore rating, which will retain a 12 kDa sample for dialysis.

      Helpful?

  2. I need a dialysis tubing material that can operate at pH 9-10. Will this material work?

    1 answer
    1. This tubing is sensitive to pH levels above 8.

      Helpful?

  3. Is this membrane made of regenerated cellulose? Is it compatible with DMF (Dimethylformamide)?

    1 answer
    1. The D7884 product is made from cellulose, not regenerated cellulose. Both of these are not compatible with Dimethylformamide.

      Helpful?

  4. if my MW is 1700, will this product works?

    1 answer
    1. This product D7884 is useful for separating compounds with a molecular weight of ≤1,200 from compounds with a molecular weight >2,000.

      Helpful?

  5. what is the molecular cutoff if the tubing in daltons

    1 answer
    1. This product is useful for separating compounds with a molecular weight of ≤1,200 from compounds with a molecular weight >2,000.

      Helpful?

  6. What is the molecular weight cut off this membrane? And Should we just wash with distilled water before use

    1 answer
    1. As listed in the PROPERTIES section under 'pore size', the molecular weight cut-off is 2000 Da. Yes, the tubing should be rinsed with DI water before use.

      Helpful?

  7. Are there certain conditions to avoid when using Product D7884, Dialysis tubing benzoylated?

    1 answer
    1. The tubing is sensitive to pH above 8 and should not be exposed to temperatures above 70 °C, since this may alter the pore size. Methanol will not damage the dialysis tubing and it may be used to store it. Tubing becomes brittle when allowed to dry.

      Helpful?

  8. What are the retention properties of Product D7884, Dialysis tubing benzoylated?

    1 answer
    1. Benzoylation reduces the size of the pores in the membrane such that the molecular weight cut-off is reduced to approximately 2 kDa.  Compounds with a molecular weight of 1200 will freely pass through the membrane.  Compounds with a molecular weight of 2000 or greater will be retained by the membrane.

      Helpful?

  9. Can Product D7884, Dialysis tubing benzoylated, be reused?

    1 answer
    1. Sigma-Aldrich does not recommend that the tubing be reused.

      Helpful?

  10. What is the inflated volume of Product D7884, Dialysis tubing benzoylated?

    1 answer
    1. The inflated volume is approximately 100 mL/foot.
