Gene Information

human ... ODC1(4953)

General description

Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC1) is the first enzyme in polyamine synthesis and is mandatory for normal growth and is increased in many types of cancers. ODC1 has been shown to suppress the fmc1 deletion in yeast and restores healthy respiratory growth. ODC1 may play a role in promoting DNA synthesis in hepatocytes.

Immunogen

Full length of recombinant protein corresponding to human ODC1.

Material obtained from the National Cancer Institute’s Clinical Proteomic Technologies for Cancer (CPTC) program.

Application

Research Category
Signaling
This Anti-ODC1 Antibody, clone CPTC-ODC1-2 is validated for use in WB for the detection of ODC1.

Quality

Evaluated by Western Blot in MCF-7 cell lysate.

Western Blot Analysis: 10 µg/mL of this antibody detected ODC1 on 10 µg of MCF-7 cell lysate.

Target description

~51 kDa observed. A band at ~100 kDa may be observed in some lysates and may be the homodimer of this protein.

Treatment of patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is limited by a lack of effective molecular therapies targeting this disease. Recent studies have identified metabolic alterations in cancer cells that can be targeted to improve responses to standard-of-care chemotherapy regimens.

Polyamines are critical metabolites involved in various cellular processes and often dysregulated in cancers. Kaposi's sarcoma-associated Herpesvirus (KSHV), a defined human oncogenic virus, leads to profound alterations of host metabolic landscape to favor development of KSHV-associated malignancies.
