Pyronin Y (C.I. 45005) is an aminoxanthene dye that is present as a weakly lipophilic cation in neutral aqueous solutions. It is also known as pyronine G.
Application
Pyronin Y is commonly used in histology as a constituent of the ethyl (methyl) green-pyronine method for demonstrating DNA and RNA. It is known as a nucleic acid stain for both RNA and DNA. Additionally, it is suitable for other microscopic applications including demonstration of lipofuscin in neurons and simultaneous fixation and staining of phospholipids.
