General description

Potassium chloride, an alkali metal halide, is a colorless crystalline salt. Its solubility in water is directly proportional to increase in temperature. It can be prepared from potassium hydroxide, via neutralization reaction with HCl. Calorimetric estimation of the enthalpy of solution of potassium chloride in water has been described.

Application

Potassium chloride may be used in the preparation of fertilizer, potassium hydroxide, potassium carbonate and other potassium slats. It may be used in the calorimetric determination of enthalpy and heat capacity values during the deprotonation (loss of proton H+) of buffers. From these values temperature dependence of the pH of these buffers was calculated.
Potassium chloride can be used as a fertilizer and as a regenerant to soften water. It has been used a buffer for the separation of major purine metabolites in the heart, using reverse phase ion pair chromatography(RPIPC).
May be used for the preparation of phosphate buffered saline, and for the extraction and solubilization of proteins.

High-protein diets induce alterations in metabolism that may prevent diet-induced obesity. However, little is known as to whether different protein sources consumed at normal levels may affect diet-induced obesity and associated co-morbidities. We fed obesity-prone male C57BL/6J mice high-fat, high-sucrose
