Gene Information

Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhimurium str. LT2 ... fliC (STM1959)

General description

FliC (flagellin) is the subunit protein which polymerizes to form the filaments of bacterial flagella. The protein has four-domains (D0, D1, D2, D3).[1]
The encoded flagellin filament contains 55 kDa monomers.[2]

Biochem/physiol Actions

FliC (flagellin) can activate the innate immune system by TLR5 (toll like receptor 5) and is an important proinflammatory molecule.[1][3] FliC also induces the production of antibodies and is identified as an antigen by CD4+ T cells.[4]
It also stimulates the production of proinflammatory mediators : nitric oxide, interleukin 1 (IL-1), IL-6, IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor α.[5]

Recent meta-analyses suggest that the consumption of fermented dairy products reduces type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, although the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. We evaluated whether dairy protein products modulated gut microbiota and cardiometabolic features in mouse models

Questions

1–2 of 2 Questions
  1. Hello! I wondered if this product is expressed from the host in its native folded state? I am interested in obtaining native folded flagellin... thanks for any insights you can provide in this matter!

    1 answer
    1. The structure of the material after purification is not assessed. While the native folding state cannot be guaranteed, the final purified flagellan can bind human and mouse TLR5 and activate TLR5 in cell culture.

  2. Good morning, I would like to have the sequence of this protein and the host where it was produced. Thank yo and best regards

    1 answer
    1. This is native Flagellin purified from Salmonella typhimurium. The published sequence can be found here:
