Gene Information

human ... SLC39A8(64116)

General description

Solute carrier family 39 member 8 (SLC39A8), also known as zinc- and iron-related protein 8 (ZIP8), is a plasma membrane transporter protein. It is part of the solute carrier gene superfamily. The gene encoding SLC39A8 is localized on human chromosome 4q24.

Immunogen

ZIP8 antibody was raised against a 18 amino acid peptide near the carboxy terminus of human ZIP8.

Application

Anti-ZIP8 antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunocytochemistry.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Solute carrier family 39 member 8 (SLC39A8) co-transports divalent metal cations like cadmium, zinc, manganese and iron. It has a crucial role in the cellular uptake of cadmium. The protein is a target of nuclear-factor κB (NF-κB) and has a role in pro-inflammatory responses.
