Pancreatic polypeptide (PPY) or PP is an endogenous peptide hormone. It is secreted by the PP cells of the Islets of Langerhans, in the pancreas. PPY is part of the neuropeptide Y family of hormones. It is a 36 amino acid proteinand the gene encoding it is localized on human chromosome 17q21.31.
Immunogen
Peptide with sequence C-TRPRYGKRHKEDT from the internal region of the protein sequence according to NP_002713.1.
Application
Anti-Pancreatic polypeptide/PPY antibody produced in goat has been used in immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Pancreatic polypeptide (PPY) or PP has glucoregulatory functions. It modulates biliary secretion and food digestion by preventing gastric emptying. PPY binds to the Y4 receptor and has a role in increasing the number of insulin receptors on hepatocytes. The protein has been associated with chronic pancreatitis and pancreatogenic diabetes. PPY also negatively regulates the expression of resistin hormone.

Monotremes have undergone remarkable changes to their digestive and metabolic control system; however, the monotreme pancreas remains poorly characterized. Previous work in echidna demonstrated the presence of pancreatic islets, but no information is available for platypus and the fine structure
Strongly altered receptor binding properties in PP and NPY chimeras are accompanied by changes in structure and membrane binding.
