Biochem/physiol Actions
Hydrolyzes the β-ester bond of zwitterionic glycerophospholipids. Preferred substrates are phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, and their plasmalogen analogues. Phosphatidylinositol and phosphatidylserine are also hydrolyzed. Aggressively attacks phospholipids in membranes of intact cells.
Other Notes
The toxic phospholipase A2 from Naja mossambica mossambica.

In a narrow definition, virucidal activity represents the activity by which to interact with and physically disrupt viral particles. In a broad definition, it includes the activity by which to functionally inhibit (neutralize) viral infectivity without apparent morphological alterations of

Cells steadily adapt their membrane glycerophospholipid (GPL) composition to changing environmental and developmental conditions. While the regulation of membrane homeostasis via GPL synthesis in bacteria has been studied in detail, the mechanisms underlying the controlled degradation of endogenous GPLs remain
