Deoxyribonucleic acid sodium salt from salmon testes has been used in basal medium for the anaerobic growth of several Bacillus mojavensis strains[1] It has been also used as a component of immunoprecipitation (IP) buffer for the Microplate-Based Matrix Chromatin Immunoprecipitation (ChIP).[2]

The molecular weight of this product has not been determined. This material is considered to be double-stranded. Historical data indicates that this material separates to two major bands during electrophoresis. One band indicating at least 9416 base pairs and one band at approximately 3350 base pairs. Note that each base pair has an estimated molecular weight of 650 daltons.

What is the solubility of Product D1626, Deoxyribonucleic acid sodium salt from salmon testes (DNA)?

Sigma tests solubility in water at 2 mg/mL. To prevent shearing of the large genomic DNA, this product should be dissolved in water (1 mg/mL) with no sonication or stirring. Gentle inversion overnight at 0-4 °C is recommended to completely solubilize the DNA. The presence of 1 mM EDTA is recommended to prevent nucleases from degrading the DNA.
