Application

Deoxyribonucleic acid sodium salt has been used in a study to evaluate the cytotoxicity of enzyme inhibitors and absorption enhancers in Caco-2 cells for oral delivery of salmon calcitonin. Deoxyribonucleic acid sodium salt has also been used in a study to develop a simple method for extracting DNA from Cryptosporidium oocysts.
Deoxyribonucleic acid sodium salt from salmon testes has been used in basal medium for the anaerobic growth of several Bacillus mojavensis strains[1] It has been also used as a component of immunoprecipitation (IP) buffer for the Microplate-Based Matrix Chromatin Immunoprecipitation (ChIP).[2]
Salmon Sperm Deoxyribonucleic acid (SS-DNA) may be used to study physicochemical interactions of DNA with binding agents, intercalation agents, modification agents, detection agents and compaction agents. Salmon sperm DNA is used to study the loading capacity of magnetic mesoporous silica nanoparticles (M-MSNs) and binding capacities of polymer nanolayer architectures. SS-DNA may be used as substrate for development of DNA detection assays.

This study shows that DNA (linearized plasmid, 4331 base pairs and salmon sperm, 2000 base pairs, respectively) adsorbs to model membranes of zwitterionic liquid crystalline phospholipid bilayers in solutions containing divalent Ca(2+) cations, and also in solutions containing monovalent Na(+).

Questions

1–7 of 7 Questions
  1. Is the DNA solid (like a mesh) or is it a powder? The product number is D1626 Thank you.

    1 answer
    1. The product is supplied in the form of a powder.

      Helpful?

  2. What us the molecular weight of product D1626?

    1 answer
    1. The molecular weight of this product has not been determined. This material is considered to be double-stranded. Historical data indicates that this material separates to two major bands during electrophoresis. One band indicating at least 9416 base pairs and one band at approximately 3350 base pairs. Note that each base pair has an estimated molecular weight of 650 daltons.

      Helpful?

  3. This is a single-stranded or double-stranded?

    1 answer
    1. This product is a crude preparation. While it is not tested on a lot specific basis, it is considered to be double-stranded.

      Helpful?

  4. What is the purity (%) of Product D1626, Deoxyribonucleic acid sodium salt from salmon testes (DNA)?

    1 answer
    1. This product is not tested for purity. Historically, the A260/A280 ratios have been >1.8. This value is generally consider to be an indication of purified DNA.

      Helpful?

  5. What is the solubility of Product D1626, Deoxyribonucleic acid sodium salt from salmon testes (DNA)?

    1 answer
    1. Sigma tests solubility in water at 2 mg/mL.  To prevent shearing of the large genomic DNA, this product should be dissolved in water (1 mg/mL) with no sonication or stirring. Gentle inversion overnight at 0-4 °C is recommended to completely solubilize the DNA. The presence of 1 mM EDTA is recommended to prevent nucleases from degrading the DNA.

      Helpful?

  6. What is the Department of Transportation shipping information for this product?

    1 answer
    1. Transportation information can be found in Section 14 of the product's (M)SDS.To access the shipping information for this material, use the link on the product detail page for the product.

      Helpful?

  7. What is the solution stability of Product D1626, Deoxyribonucleic acid sodium salt from salmon testes (DNA)?

    1 answer
    1. Solutions of DNA have been stored successfully for several months at 4°C, in 10 mM Tris, pH 7.5 - 8.0, with 1 mM EDTA and without a bacteriostatic agent.
