Biochem/physiol Actions
AKT3 or Protein Kinase B g (PKBg) is a serine/threonine kinase that is a member of the AKT family. AKT3 is activated in cells exposed to diverse stimuli such as hormones, growth factors, and extracellular matrix components. AKT3 phosphorylates and regulates the function of many cellular proteins involved in processes that include cellular metabolism, survival/apoptosis, and proliferation. Recent evidence indicates that AKT3 is frequently overexpressed in many types of human cancers including breast and prostate.

Protein kinase B (PKB) is involved in the regulation of apoptosis, protein synthesis and glycogen metabolism in mammalian cells. Phosphoinositide-dependent protein kinase (PDK-1) activates PKB in a manner dependent on phosphatidylinositol 3,4,5-trisphosphate (PtdIns(3,4,5)P3), which is also needed for the translocation
The Biochemical journal, 335 ( Pt 1), 1-13 (1998-09-22)
While a plethora of extracellular molecules exist that modulate cellular functions via binding to membrane receptors inside the cell, their actions are mediated by relatively few signalling mechanisms. One of these is activation of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI-3K), which results in
