Human follicular thyroid carcinoma, lymph node metastasis
Cell Line Description
FTC-133 was obtained from a lymph node metastasis of a follicular thyroid carcinoma not the primary tumour as originally reported from a 42-year-old male. The morphology differs from flat polygonal to spindle formed cells. They retained differentiated thyrocyte function and thyrocyte responsiveness to thyrotropin and local active growth factors. Thyroglobulin immunoreactivity could be shown in the cytoplasm and EGF receptor immunoreactivity could be visualised on the cell membranes. Complex chromosomal changes were detected as well as a p53 mutation. FTC-133 (Sigma catalogue number 94060901), FTC-236 (Sigma catalogue number 06030202) and FTC-238 (Sigma catalogue number 94060902) were all derived from the same individual, a 42 year old male with follicular thyroid cancer. This has been confirmed by short tandem repeat STR-PCR analysis at ECACC The Y chromosome could not be detected in these cell line by (STR)-PCR analysis. It is a known phenomenon that due to the increased genetic instability of cancer cell lines the Y chromosome can be rearranged or lost resulting in lack of detection. The cell lines are identical to the source provided by the depositor based on the STR-PCR analysis.
Application
FTC-133 cell line has been used to study the function of human thyroid and development of thyroid cancer.[1][2]

Follicular thyroid cancer's (FTC) excellent long-term prognosis is mainly dependent on postoperative radioactive iodine (RAI) treatment. However, once the tumour becomes refractory, the 10-year disease-specific survival rate drops below 10%. The aim of our study was to evaluate the prognostic
Two triterpene saponins, including a novel serjanic acid derivative, were isolated from Chenopodium hybridum L. (Amaranthaceae) aerial parts. Their structures were elucidated by a combination of spectroscopic methods (MS, 1D and 2D NMR). Both compounds were evaluated for cytotoxicity and
