General description

06:0 PE (1,2-dihexanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine/DHPE) is a phosphoethanolamine (PE) molecule which carries short acyl chains. It is an ethanolamine-type substrate and a water-soluble phospholipid.

Application

06:0 PE (1,2-dihexanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine/DHPE) may be used:
  • as a substrate for glycerophosphoethanolamine ethanolaminephosphodiesterase (GPE-EP) in specificity studies as a phosphoethanolamine (PE) standard in liquid chromatographic analysis of milk phospholipids
  • as a phospholipid substrate to study the kinetic parameters for the glucose transporter type 4 (Glu4) mutants
  • as calibration standard in hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) and ion mobility (IM)

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphoethanolamine (PE) is known to possess antitumor activity and inhibitory effects on tumor progression in vivo. It also exhibits antiproliferative and proapoptotic effects. It acts as a precursor of phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine.

Streptomyces sanglieri extracellularly produces a glycerophosphoethanolamine ethanolaminephosphodiesterase (GPE-EP). The gene encoding the enzyme was found to consist of a 2124-bp ORF, which codes for an N-terminal 48 residue signal peptide required for secretion and a 660 amino acid mature protein
