Description

Biochem/physiol Actions

Narasin is a growth-promoting ionophoric antibacterial agent for Enterococci, specifically Enterococcus faecium and Enterococcus faecalis. Narasin inhibits coccidial infection in poultry and mammals and is used in studies involving sodium calcium ion exchange.

Narasin is a growth-promoting ionophoric antibacterial agent for Enterococci, specifically Enterococcus faecium and Enterococcus faecalis. Narasin inhibits coccidial infection in poultry and mammals and is used in studies involving sodium calcium ion exchange.

In addition, Narasin inhibits Dengue virus (DENV) at the post-entry stage of viral replication during DENV infection. The inhibition of DENV involves a non-cytotoxic mechanism, therefore, Narasin can be possibly considered as therapeutic agent against DENV infection. A dose dependent curve (0.01-5 μM) showed that Narasin has 50% inhibitory concentration at less than 1 μM against all four serotypes of DENV. The IC₅₀ (μM) of Narasin against four different DENV serotypes was 0.05-0.65 μM.

Other Notes

Narasin solution is provided at 1.307 mM (1 mg/ml). Typical final concentration for use in cell culture is 0.01-5 μM. Stable at ­­­–20 °C for at least 2 years.
