Application

Iron(II) chloride tetrahydrate can be used as a catalyst in the:
  • Solvent-free Ritter reaction of nitriles with various halohydrocarbons to synthesize N-substituted amides.
  • Synthesis of ketones via indirect hydration of alkynes.
  • Stereoselective reduction of α, β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds to the corresponding saturated alcohols in the presence of lithium and DTBB.
It can also be used as a precursor to prepare iron-bisphosphine complex, which can be used to catalyze Kumada-Tamao-Corriu coupling.

Magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) were prepared by alkaline hydrolysis of Fe(II) and Fe(III) chlorides. Adsorption of polyacrylic acid (PAA) on MNPs was measured at pH=6.5±0.3 and I=0.01 M (NaCl) to find the optimal PAA amount for MNP stabilization under physiological conditions.
