General description

Nocive Brewers Bacteria Agar is a selective medium designed for thedetection of beer-spoiling microorganisms. Originally developed in Germany byBack and Dachs, the medium was later modified byNishikawa and Kohgo to reduce its inhibitory effects on beer-spoilingorganisms. Pancreatic digest of casein, yeast extract, and beef extract providesessential nitrogenous compounds, vitamins, and nutrients required for thegrowth of spoilage bacteria. Dextrose and maltose serve as fermentable sugars, while chlorophenol red acts as an indicator for acid production. Polysorbate 80neutralizes phenols, hexachlorophene, and formalin, and potassium acetatereplaces sodium acetate to make the medium less inhibitory. L-cysteinehydrochloride functions as a reducing agent, and L-malic acid supports thegrowth of lactic acid bacteria as a beneficial metabolite. Disodium phosphateserves as a buffering agent, while the low pH optimizes the growth of lacticacid bacteria and simultaneously inhibits other organisms. Agar is used as thesolidifying agent.

Application

NociveBrewers Bacteria Agar is specifically designed for the detection and isolationof beer-spoiling microorganisms, including lactic acid bacteria and otherspoilage organisms that can compromise the quality and stability of beer. Themedium is used to monitor contamination during various stages of beerproduction, ensuring product integrity and preventing spoilage.
