General description

A stable-labeled internal standard for use in LC/MS or GC/MS applications including clinical toxicology analysis, therapeutic drug monitoring, or isotope dilution methods. Desmethylolanzapine is the primary metabolite of olanzapine, marketed as the atypical antipsychotic Zyprexa® for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Application

  • Monitoring Metabolic Parameters in Schizophrenia: A study utilized plasma levels of olanzapine and its metabolite, N-desmethyl-olanzapine, to monitor metabolic parameters in patients with schizophrenia, providing a critical link between antipsychotic drug concentrations and metabolic health. This research supports the use of these biomarkers in clinical settings to optimize therapeutic strategies and manage side effects (Lu et al., 2018).

  • Evaluating Clinical Efficacy in Schizophrenia: Another significant study applied plasma levels of olanzapine and N-desmethyl-olanzapine to assess clinical efficacy in schizophrenia patients. By correlating drug levels with therapeutic outcomes, this approach aids in personalized medicine, ensuring patients receive optimal dosages for effective treatment (Lu et al., 2016).
