(±)-Sodium 3-hydroxybutyrate has been used in a study to understand the effect of butyrate on fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21), which is involved in fatty acid ß-oxidation in liver. It may be used in the preparation of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate).
