Description

Application

Ytterbium(III) nitrate pentahydrate can be used as a precursor to synthesize:

• Er–Mn: Yb₃Al₅O₁₂ (YbAG) nanocrystals by nonaqueous sol–gel method. Yb³⁺–Mn²⁺ dimer sensitization significantly enhances the green upconversion emissions.
• CaTiO₃:Yb³⁺, Er³⁺ nanoparticles by coprecipitation method. These nanoparticles are used in the optical monitoring of mineralization and demineralization of bone scaffolds.

It can also be used as a dopant to prepare BiVO₄ semiconductor photocatalysts with enhanced upconversion properties.
