General description

Aloperine is a quinolizidine-type alkaloid found in the seeds and leaves of the herbal plant, Sophora alopecuroides L. It possesses antiviral, anticancer, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activity. Aloperine exhibits antifibrotic activity in mouse models of pulmonary fibrosis, and anticancer activity in human osteosarcoma and thyroid cancer cells. It also exhibits neuroprotective effects against oxidative stress in early brain injury, and antiviral activity as a human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) entry inhibitor. Aloperine also has the ability to inhibit migration and invasion of liver cancer cells, as well as disrupt the cell cycle, and mitigate cell growth at various phases. It can hinder the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/protein kinase B/mammalian target of rapamycin (PI3K/Akt/mTOR) signaling pathway.

Application

Aloperine may be used to study its effects on allergic airway inflammation in the murine asthma model and to compare its anti-asthmatic activity.
