General description

Heat shock protein family B (small) member 3 (HSPB3) is a member of HSPB family. It is expressed in skeletal and cardiac muscles. HSPB3 gene is located on human chromosome location 5q11.2.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 11-25of human HSPB3

Application

Anti-HSPB3 (11-25) antibody produced in rabbit has been used in western blotting and immunoelectron microscopy.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Heat shock protein family B (small) member 3 (HSPB3) has molecular chaperone-like activity in inhibiting the heat-induced aggregation of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH). HSPB is critical for the development and maintenance of muscles. Mutations in HSPB3 are associated with distal hereditary motor neuropathy type 2C (dHMN2C).

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

The ten mammalian small heat shock proteins (sHSPs/HSPBs) show a different expression profile, although the majority of them are abundant in skeletal and cardiac muscles. HSPBs form hetero-oligomers and homo-oligomers by interacting together and complexes containing, e.g., HSPB2/HSPB3 or HSPB1/HSPB5

The human small heat shock proteins (HSPBs) form a family of molecular chaperones comprising ten members (HSPB1-HSPB10), whose functions span from protein quality control to cytoskeletal dynamics and cell death control. Mutations in HSPBs can lead to human disease and
