General description

Immunoglobulin Y (IgY) is also known as egg yolk immunoglobulin and is found mainly in birds, amphibians and reptiles. IgY cannot activate mammalian complement system and cannot bind to mammalian rheumatoid factors, and protein A or G. IgY facilitates an essential role in veterinary science, functional food and bio-products. It also has a crucial role in controlling infectious diseases of bacterial and viral origin.

Specificity

Anti-Chicken IgY (IgG) (whole molecule)-Alkaline Phosphatase antibody is specific for chicken IgY (IgG).

Immunogen

IgY (IgG) isolated from pooled normal chicken serum
IgY (IgG) isolated from pooled normal chicken serum.

Application

Anti-Chicken IgY (IgG) (whole molecule) Alkaline Phosphatase antibody produced in rabbit has been used in:
  • immunoblotting
  • indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
  • immunoglobulin assay
  • dot Blot
  • immunohistology

Biochem/physiol Actions

Chicken IgY is the major antibody found in chicken serum. Chickens generate a comparatively enhanced antibody response to mammalian antigenic proteins. These immunoglobulins do not bind to Fc receptors present in mammals and bacteria, and also do not interact with rheumatoid factors. Thus anti-chicken antibodies are useful analytical tools for various research applications.

Physical form

Solution in 0.05 M Tris, pH 8.0, containing 1% bovine serum albumin, 1 mM MgCl2 and 15 mM sodium azide.
