General description

Hexadimethrine bromide is a quaternary ammonium compound which works as a heparin antagonist.[1] It is also involved in the transformation of low molecular weight DNA.[2]

Application

Hexadimethrine bromide can be used to transfect mammalian cells with DNA. It can be used to increase the efficiency of lipofection transfections.
Hexadimethrine bromide has been used for lentivirus infection in cells.[3][4] It has been used for infection of cells with retroviral supernatant.[5][6]

Questions

1–10 of 12 Questions
  1. Is it possible for hexadimethrine bromide to breakdown and lose its effectiveness after 3 years when stored in its powdered form at 4 degree celsius? We bought this product around 3 years and now it doesn't work as well as before when doing transduction.

    1 answer
    1. This product is assigned a recommended retest period of 2 years from the date of Quality release. While quite stable, the compound may slowly degrade over time. The suitability of this item beyond the lot specific retest date would have to be determined by the end user.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  3. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  5. What is the preferred solvent for Hexadimethrine bromide? I see water or saline above, but does either effect solubility or stability?

    1 answer
    1. The choice of solvent typically depends on the specific application. For in vitro or in vivo studies, saline is more commonly used. The material is soluble in water at up to 10%. Solutions are quite stable and maintain activity after autoclaving. Stock solutions prepared at 1 mg/mL in saline are stable for up to 1 year when stored at 2–8 °C.
