General description

Yeast Extract Broth is a water-soluble, peptone-like derivative obtained from yeast (Saccharomyces) cells. It is prepared through the proteolytic autolysis of the cells, with the autolytic activity being arrested by a heating process. The controlled autolysis ensures the preservation of naturally occurring B-complex vitamins.
Yeast Extract is a versatile, growth-enhancing nutritive substrate that can replace serum in cell cultures. And, it maintains an endotoxin value of less than 500 EU/g.

Application

Yeast Extract Broth is used to detect microorganisms from water samples.

Analysis Note

  • Utilize the membrane filtration method and impregnate a sterile pad with the medium
  • Deposit the membrane filter on the pad and ensure protection against dehydration
  • Adjust temperature and incubation time as per internal regulations or laboratory methodologies
  • Collect, dilute, and prepare samples following specifications, directives, official standard regulations, or expected results
  • Incubate aerobically at 36±2ºC for 44±4h
  • Note that different incubation times or temperatures may be required based on the sample or normative ISO factors
  • Enumerate all colonies on the membrane surface post-incubation
  • Recognize the significant impact of the material and quality of the membrane filter on microorganism recovery
