eGFP stands for enhanced green fluorescent protein, a red-shifted mutant of GFP, which folds more efficiently and fluoresces more intensely than wild-type GFP. This product corresponds to the green fluorescent protein (GFP) isolated from the jellyfish, Aequorea victoria.

GFP absorbs blue light (maximum 395 nm, smaller absorbance peak at 470 nm) and emits green light (maximum 507-510 nm, shoulder at 545 nm) (PubMed:8137953, PubMed:9154981). The exact value of the emission maximum depends on the environment of the chromophore (PubMed:10220315).
