Application

Poly(vinylpyrrolidone)–Iodine complex, or PVP-I, has been used to study microbial decontamination of human donor eyes and the inactivation of infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus.

Biochem/physiol Actions

PVP-1 is used as a slow iodine release formulation that iodinates lipids and oxidizes cell compounds such as tyrosine sidechains. It is used as a carbon nanotube coating agent to improve water solubility.
