Biochem/physiol Actions

Thimerosal is a sulfhydryl (thiol) oxidizing reagent capable of inhibiting a wide range of sulfhydryl-dependent enzymes and proteins such as PI3-kinase-dependent methionine synthase, glutamate transport receptors, and Na++K+ dependent ATPases.

Analysis Note

Solubility (EP/BP) Freely soluble in water, sparingly soluble or soluble in ethanol (96%), practically insoluble in ether and methylene cholride.

Other Notes

As part of the corporation global plan to support the Minamata Convention eliminating mercury-containing compounds, as of January 2021 customers will be required to provide an End-Use Declaration. Sales of thimerosal will be restricted for approved applications only.
