General description
Phosphatidylserine (PS) is an acidic membrane phospholipid present in human cerebral cortex. It is majorly present in the inner leaflet of plasma membrane. NBD PS contains the fluorophore, 7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-4-yl (NBD) labelled at the headgroup of PS.
Application
18:1-12:0 NBD PS or 1-oleoyl-2-{12-[(7-nitro-2-1,3-benzoxadiazol-4-yl)amino]dodecanoyl}-sn-glycero-3-phosphoserine (ammonium salt), may be used to measure the phosphatidylserine decarboxylase (Psd1) activity.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Phosphatidylserine (PS) is involved in maintaining the nerve cell membrane and myelin sheath. Phosphatidylserine (PS) is associated with Akt, protein kinase C (PKC) and Raf-1 signaling.

Spatial organization of phospholipid synthesis in eukaryotes is critical for cellular homeostasis. The synthesis of phosphatidylcholine (PC), the most abundant cellular phospholipid, occurs redundantly via the ER-localized Kennedy pathway and a pathway that traverses the ER and mitochondria via membrane
